Mary Poppins of Maryborough
Did you know Queensland has a MARY POPPINS museum?
I know right!!
I was excited as you when I found out!
So it was essential Maryborough was put on our itinerary so we could visit ASAP.
Mary fever has certainly invaded this country town, even the pedestrian crossing has been hit (see photos below).
The museum is actually a tribute to PL Travers who wrote the Mary Poppins . She was born here, in Maryborough and all my kids (finally) agree (on something), and that is, it is one of the best museums we have been to on our trip so far.
The whole place is interactive, imaginative, quirky and fun-which keeps the kids totally engaged for hours.
Drawers open, phones ring, there are little mice to find in each room, dress ups, colouring in (on the wall mind you!!) shadow puppets and you can even write a letter to Mary Poppins herself and she emails back! How “21st century” of her!!
It is truely is a magical place to visit. There are photo opportunities galore and I would recommend you watch the movie“Saving Mr Banks” before you come so the (older) kids can appreciate the theme of the museum and engage with all the learning opportunities.
