Richmond, QLD Dino’s & Rodeo’s

We parked and hooked up to power in Richmond. It was a welcome reprieve and gave us a chance to do our washing, run the air-conditioning at night and to just spread out and enjoy our own space..

The caravan park was a little squishy for the size of our caravan, so we were moved into the overflow area, which was the racecourse. This was fantastic for us because it was quiet, spacious and had a huge undercover area that the kids could play in, while I did some housekeeping jobs and Brad got some work done.

Why should the kids have all the fun shots. Brad said my pose looks as though I am a very sweet cooperative meal for this Dinosaur.

Richmond was one of our stops on the Dinosaur trail, it housed the Kronosarus Korner and we spent the best part of Sunday exploring this museum. Ari got a bit bored after a while, he was getting a bit over dinosaur museums by now, and the playground across the road was far too tempting for our active little guy.

Kronosaurus Korner was really good. It had loads of learning for the kids. This photo is Hannah learning more about the Kronosaurus fossil exhibit. the voice recorder which is available to visitors to use, explains what you are looking at at each of the exhibits.. You can also download the voice recording on your phone, might be good to bring your headphones.

There is a little area in the museum where kids are encouraged to touch a fossil

By far the highlight of our time in Richmond was the Rodeo. We were so blessed to have been in this town on the one weekend a year that they have their Rodeo. We actually didn’t plan it at all, it was pure coincidence.

I loved this more community based Rodeo because it was relaxed, had a quick turn over of events and riders, there wasn’t heaps of people crowding the front fence (so we could actually see properly) and the lolly drop made the kids so excited.

They also had really affordable food at the tuck shop so we enjoyed eating out (something we rarely do) while watching all the action.

my kids enjoyed climbing the fence in-between the entertainment. Littlest M wanted to join his siblings.

Since we had so much fun here, we decided that we will continue on the Overlanders Way and follow the Rodeo circuit onto Cloncurry and then to Mount Isa where the big competition is held.

Thanks for having us, Richmond, we had a blast.
